ADMINISTERED THROUGH THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
What is the Opportunity Scholarship Program?
The Opportunity Scholarship program will now be available to all North Carolina families while prioritizing the lowest-income families first. The requirement that students previously attended a public school in North Carolina has been removed, increasing eligibility to all families in our schools. Four income tiers will be eligible for the scholarships, based on a family of four.
Families with lower incomes would be eligible for the full scholarship amount, approximately $7,400 for the current year, while households in the subsequent three income brackets would receive scholarships at rates of 90%, 60%, and 45%, respectively.
First priority will be given to eligible students who received a scholarship grant for the school year prior to the school year for which the students are applying if those students have applied by March 1. At least fifty percent (50%) of the remaining funds shall be used to award scholarship grants to eligible students residing in households with an income level not in excess of the amount required for the student to qualify for the federal free or reduced-price lunch program. Any remaining funds shall be used to award scholarship grants to all other eligible students.
The new student application opens February 1, 2024 with a deadline of March 1, 2024.
